In our recent interview with City Grit's Sarah Simmons, she named Memphis restaurant Hog and Hominy as the site of the most memorable meal she's eaten:
It was memorable because I had to stop eating because I was going to die. I wore my fat jeans, and I don't finish anything that I don't love. And I couldn't stop eating, even though when you're already full, the food is never as good as it should be. We got to the end and they brought us this Parmesan gelato. I was like, "That sounds disgusting." But I was stabbing people with a fork to keep them away while I ate it with a spoon. My heart was racing because I was so full. I'm still so excited about it and in love with it.
If that sounds like your kind of dinner, you don't have to book a ticket to Tennessee to partake--the team behind Hog and Hominy is making an appearance at City Grit later this month.
Chefs Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman, the men behind the spot's Italian-inflected Southern fare, will stop through the space on Monday, July 22. And while the duo's being secretive about the menu they'll serve, they'll say that they're planning to give diners a taste of the No Menu Monday tradition they observe at their other restaurant, Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, and offer a multi-course feast of off-the-list dishes. Past offerings have included beet lasagna with potato-taleggio filling and squid ink pasta with clams, mussels, and celery root, though anything within their Southern-Italian canon is fair game.
An additional hint: The theme for this dinner is New York State of Mind.
Tickets to the one-night-only event are $85 per person or $150 per couple. Beer and wine will be available for purchase at the meal.
