Huckleberry Bar's Slow Death in the Afternoon: A Sweet Way to Go

The drink: Slow Death in the Afternoon

The bar: Huckleberry Bar, 588 Grand Street, Brooklyn

The price: $12

The ingredients: Kaffir lime-infused gin, Kirschwasser, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup, with an absinthe floater (Delaware Phoenix's Meadown of Love, to be precise), and a prosecco top, usually served in a highball glass.

The buzz: If you've got to go, this fresh take on an old Ernest Hemingway favorite is the elixir to do it. (Papa's version, Death in the Afternoon, is just champagne with an absinthe rinse.) Morbid thoughts aside, it's also a lovely afternoon sipper, especially if you find yourself in Huckleberry's charmingly overgrown back garden. You're a world away from harshly hip and utilitarian Williamsburg back there, with only the pretty girls in vintage sundresses to remind you where you are.
