In D.C., Chef Spike Honors First Lady With Sandwich
Not only is Michelle Obama being courted by French chefs in New York, she also has local chefs paying homage to her... in sandwich form. Top Chef's Spike Mendelsohn of Good Stuff Eatery in D.C. will appear on Good Morning America tomorrow armed with his new turkey burger named for the first lady, whose visits to the restaurant have been well documented. Michelle's Melt is made with free range turkey, caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, and a mayo flavored with herbs grown in the White House garden, all piled on a freshly baked wheat bun. Mendelsohn already has a Prez Obama burger on the menu, so honoring Michelle on a bun only seemed fair. Proceeds from the sale of the Michelle Melt will go toward the non-profit DC Central Kitchen.
