Incredibly Cheap Eats: Fried Chicken at Clinton Hill's Yafa Deli
Two pieces of chicken fried to perfection from Yafa Deli.
Clinton Hill's Yafa Deli is relatively unremarkable. Sure, there is a good selection of beer, aisles of dry goods beckon, and there's a freezer case filled with garish ice cream treats. But the minute you enter, the thing that seizes your attention is a glass case that sits high on the counter like it contains the Crown Jewels.
Inside the case are several carefully arranged pieces of fried chicken. Barely coated with flour, skin intact, fried to a delighful shade of brown. Every once in a while, a new batch consisting of a few pieces appears, mainly legs and thighs, because those are the good parts.
The deli is located at the northwest corner of Fulton and Clinton, just over the C train stop, and the pieces of chicken are only $1.25 each. Two make a luxurious meal.
"I believe I will get two drumsticks," she says to herself.
