Incredibly Cheap Eats: Prosciutto-Ricotta Balls at Alleva Dairy
These goopy little fritters are filled with a savory mix of prosciutto cotto, ricotta, parsley, and mozzarella, and encased in a crisp coat of breadcrumbs. They're fabricated at Alleva Dairy in Little Italy and sold two for $1.
The mini-food bombs are Southern Italian in origin, like most Italian immigrants to New York. But don't let the guy behind the counter microwave them, as he is likely to do--it'll make them soggy. Instead, inhale the fritters at room temperature, or bring them home and stick them in a hot oven for a minute.
