Incredibly Cheap Eats--The Whiting Sandwich at Blue Ice Fish & Chips
Please excuse the bluriness of the photo--the camera was slipping out of our greasy mitts.
Whiting has had a long history as fish of choice among African-Americans in New York, finding its most exalted expression in the whiting sandwich. In the excellent example shown above--found recently at Blue Ice Fish & Chips in Bed-Stuy--three crisp fillets come sandwiched between two slices of white. At $3.50, it's the cheapest we've found in the city, and Fork in the Road could barely finish it. 895 Lafayette Avenue, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, 718-443-2431
