Le Barricou Gives the 'Burg's Grand Street Its First Outdoor Café (to Go With the Largest Pastis Selection in the City)
Le Barricou goes plein air.
Neighborhood darling Le Barricou doesn't get much recognition outside of Williamsburg, but the French bistro gets a ton of love from the locals, especially since Joshua Boissy and Jean-Pierre Marquet began revamping the place a little over a year ago. Boissy, who also happens to be the treasurer of the local BID (Business Improvement District), has been hard at work trying to spruce up Grand Street with trees and is now bringing the first outdoor café to the strip. The 12-to-14-seat sidewalk café is expected to debut in the next couple of weeks. But that's not all the news from this Williamsburg bistro.
When the partners decided to redo the space, they took a trip to France for inspiration, where they quickly became quite enamored with a certain green fairy. Upon their return, they decided to outfit the bar with a proper absinthe and pastis selection -- complete with old-timey absinthe drip -- and now boast the largest absinthe and pastis selection in the city, according to Boissy. Not that you'll be able to find big brands like Pernod there. They prefer to stock small producers like New York's own Delaware Phoenix and France's coveted Jade.
