Leberkäse from Der Kommissar, Dish #58
Welcome to 100 Dishes to Eat Now, the tasty countdown leading up to our "Best of 2012" issue. Tune in every day (weekends, too!) for a new dish from the Fork in the Road team.
This small, friendly bar in Park Slope opened last year, and it's still a nice spot for simple, Austrian-style sausage sandwiches and draft beer. The Leberkäse is a thick sandwich of Austrian meatloaf -- made with pork, beef, and veal -- browned on the flat top. It's more of a smooth, bouncy salami than American-style meatloaf and just needs a touch of mustard to liven it up.
