Mehtaphor Launches After School Program for (Precocious) Foodie Kids
Jehangir Mehta has been working with kids for a while, notably through his famed Candy Camp. So it shouldn't be surprising that he has a new venture for young'uns aged 4 to 16 called Gastro Kids After School Program, which begins this Friday at Mehtaphor. How perfect, too, since kids are really into food these days.
The Gastro Kids After School program will be held every week, on Fridays between 4 and 5 p.m., and each class will have a different theme. The first is a hunt through Mehtaphor's kitchen. Children will grab whatever they want, and then Jehangir will cook with them using those ingredients. Just like Iron Chef!
This class is priced at $60 per child and all proceeds from this first class, along with all proceeds from bar sales from the mommies and daddies and nannies accompanying the kids will go to the Japanese Red Cross for earthquake and tsunami relief. Reps from the restaurant also tell us that Jehangir will be donating all bar and dinner proceeds for reservations made at Mehtaphor tonight between 6 and 8 p.m. to the Japanese Red Cross.
A few months down the line, Jehangir will also launch a full Gastro Kids After School menu at Mehtaphor, featuring kid-friendly, healthy items. Because peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are so outré.
