Michael Pollan on Oprah: "We've Made it Rational to Eat Badly."
Author Michael Pollan appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show Wednesday to talk about his latest book Food Rules, and the documentary Food, Inc. Pollan offered, "We subsidize corn, soy, wheat. We don't do anything to subsidize fresh produce."
He went on to explain the sort of beef he eats: grass-fed from small, sustainable farms, as opposed to industrially raised corn-fed cows. Oprah quipped: "You're not worried about saying bad things about beef?" in reference to a defamation suit brought on by Texas cattle producers following a show she did on mad cow disease. Hard to believe that crazy cow epidemic was more than a decade ago...
