Mom's Cooking to Replace Australian Homemade on 8th Street
Mom's prepares to open
The stretch of 8th Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue has been a flurry of activity lately. Elettaria closed; two new burger places opened (Patty and Bun and Rockwell's Express), bringing the total of dedicated burger restaurants on the block to at least four, counting Burger Creations and Johnny Rockets. Mediocre Korean spot 8st Kitchen opened, and Australian Homemade closed.
A sign has gone up in the former Australian Homemade space, indicating that the ice cream and chocolates will be replaced by soups, stews, and "daily inspirations." Perhaps the owners are making a play for homesick NYU students. No word on whether or not the dishes will come with a free guilt trip on the side.
