More Food Recalls--Watch Out for Frozen Pasta and Alfalfa Sprouts
Another food product recall has been announced. Frozen meat and poultry pasta from Mucci's Food Products were prepared without federal inspection and sold in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. No illnesses have been reported. [AP via Google]
Meanwhile, the FDA is now warning against eating raw alfalfa sprouts. Six states have reported salmonella contamination of the sprouts, which is believed to be traceable to tainted seeds sold throughout the country. [USA Today]
Dr. David Ores, a tattooed physician on the Lower East Side, offers restaurant workers healthcare services in exchange for charging restaurants a dollar each month for every seat in the house. [NY Times]
Despite the recession, 25 percent more people have applied to open restaurants and food shops in the city so far this year than during the same period last year. [NY Post]
The James Beard Foundation is honoring "Women in Food" at its gala this year, which includes women in drinks. More than a dozen female bartenders will be featured at the May 4 dinner in New York. [Wall Street Journal]
