Most Ethical NYC Restaurants? There's an App For That
Bendita Novia

A few of the city's finer establishments are now getting noticed not only for their outstanding food but for the benefits they offer staff members. The Restaurant Opportunities Center United (ROC), an organization that strives to improve working conditions for food service employees, has released an app that lets users search for "high road restaurants" -- ones that pay better wages and allow their servers and kitchen staff to take sick days. Like a Zagat guide for ethical eating experiences, the second annual National Diners' Guide cites restaurants throughout the city that aim to keep staff happy. So which restaurateurs truly treat their employees like family members?

Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group and Tom Colicchio's Craft Restaurants made up most of the list. Meyer's eateries, including Blue Smoke, Shake Shack and Gramercy Tavern, hold 11 spots, while Colicchio's NYC restaurants (Craft and Riverpark among them) nabbed another seven places. A PDF version is also available on the organization's website. [ROC]
