Naomichi Yasuda Names Mitsuru Tamura as His Replacement

Although his numerous fans are still experiencing shock and denial over his impending departure, Naomichi Yasuda, the chef, founder, and owner of Midtown's Sushi Yasuda, is wasting no time in moving on. The Times reports that the chef has announced his replacement will be Mitsuru Tamura.

Tamura, 37, has trained for seven years and is, according to one of the restaurant's partners, "the only one [Yasuda] trusted." For his part, Yasuda, who opened his eponymous restaurant in 1999, is heading back to Japan to open an eight-seat sushi bar in Tokyo. Back in New York, Shige Akimoto, Sushi Yasuda's manager, has promised that "we are going to be Yasuda-style sushi forever."
