No Chocolate and Flowers Here
Valentine's Day isn't just a Hallmark Holiday, it's also a special day for restaurants to offer special menus at special higher prices. But some local spots (and a national chain), have found some pretty amusing ways of hawking the Hallmark-i-day, and we've got to appreciate their creativity. A few of our favorite more random V-day happenings after the jump...
At the Japanese chain Haru, they are now serving something called SHOCK-tails. A publicist tells us these are "new drinks made with an edible electric 'button' that sends electric-like pulses through your mouth when you bite into it. Guaranteed to create that special 'spark' this Valentine's Day!"
Meanwhile, because nothing says romance like beer pong, the Village Pourhouse (64 Third Avenue) is having a Couples Beer Pong Tournament on February 12. Lovers can follow up their beer pong victory a couple days later at White Castle, where they're taking reservations for Valentine's Day, as they have in previous years. Sadly, they say there will be no pictures this year.
Lastly, we've mentioned it before, but it bears mentioning again, Irving Mill (116 East 16th Street) is offering a 7-course Heart Tasting Menu for the big day. As everyone knows (except maybe Anthony Bourdain's first wife), the couple that eats offal together stays together.
