Open & Closed: Say Hello to Colonie, Goodbye to Niko's
Restaurants and bars, they come and they go. Here are a few making their debuts and bowing out this week.
Satsko on the Lower East Side has been shuttered recently and plastered with bright orange "seizure" stickers, apparently due to state taxes owed. [Bowery Boogie]
Salt & Pepper in Midtown West has closed. The lunch spot was known for big plates of stewed chicken or rice, lentils and stewed tripe, and "awesome" Indian food for just $7. [Midtown Lunch]
Upper West Side Greek diner Niko's is also a goner. Sister restaurant Big Nick's and Pizza Joint nearby remains open. [My Upper West Side via Eater]
Williamsburg café Baba has apparently closed its doors. The phone number is not picking up, and the website is no longer functional. [Zagat Buzz]
Food-and-fashion shop 202 Café in Chelsea Market is giving up the ghost. Cash in on crazy markdowns from Farhi by Nicole Farhi and French Connection this weekend. [Racked]
Mr. Ginger, a Korean restaurant on the Upper East Side, has shuttered despite recently receiving an "A" from the Health Department. [Zagat Buzz]
Public and Double Crown alums have opened Colonie in Brooklyn Heights, using Kickstarter to help finance it. [NY Times]
Agua Fresca promises authentic contemporary Mexican in East Harlem. Chef-owner Adrian Leon has worked with Nuevo Latino pioneer Douglas Rodriguez. [NY Times]
A nameless coffee shop is opening at 182 Allen Street. Like its Park Slope sister coffee shop, it will remain nameless. [Bowery Boogie]
Greenwich Village is getting a Jamaican jerk hut. Miss Lily's will serve fried plantains, jambalaya, and Caribbean beer. [UrbanDaddy]
Mister H is the latest hyper-stylized hotel bar. Recalling a 1930s-style Shanghai speakeasy, it's now soft-open in the Mondrian Soho. [UrbanDaddy]
