Pearl & Ash Opens with a Meaty Menu, Effy's Israeli Cafe Opens in 92Y
The same wood-burning ovens from Bettola will be used at Coccola in Harlem.
Pearl & Ash will open tonight in the old Bowery Kitchen space. Chef Richard Kuo, a former co-chef at the Scandinavian pop-up, Frej, offers a meat-heavy menu -- veal cheek with forbidden rice, and quail with almond, pomegranate, and chicken skin. 220 Bowery
Effy's Israeli Cafe recently opened in the 92Y, DNAInfo learned. The small outpost will serve Mediterranean classics like hummus, eggplant salad, and smoked fish. This is an offshoot of owner Effy Alkoby's main restaurant Effy's Cafe on Third Avenue. The 92Y location offers meat-free and vegan-friendly dishes too. 1295 Lexington Ave.
A new kosher pizza shop made a home in the Sony Pavilion. Recently opened Solo serves kosher Neapolitan pies -- of the dairy kind -- and the ricotta and mozzarella are made in house, reported Flo Fab. The menu offers a over a dozen varieties: some are made with truffle oil, while others are topped with arugula. Ichabod's opened last week in Galaxy Global Eatery's old location, reported EV Local. The restaurant on Irving Plaza is owned by the same folks who opened the Headless Horseman, but the new spot features "American gastronomy." The menu offers a raw bar, shared plates like marrow bones or mushrooms on toast, larger dishes like brook trout or scallops, and cocktails from Jeremy Strawn of Mulberry Project. Drinks like the Irving P. Swizzle mix white rum, lime juice, ginger juice, and rhubarb bitters, while Crane's Firing Squad gives a hearty dose of rye and cinnamon syrup. 15 Irving Pl.
Harlem's newest Italian restaurant opened on Amsterdam Avenue last week, Harlem Bespoke reported. Coccola is serving pastas, pizzas, antipasti, all for reasonable prices -- everything is under $14. Restaurateur Sebastiano Cappitta of Buac, Bettola, and Bettolona recruited chef Antonio Vallo to cook the thin-crust pizzas in a wood-burning oven. 1600 Amsterdam Ave.
