Photos: The New Amsterdam Market's Dairy Fair
The New Amsterdam Market was filled with cheerful cheese vendors, nursing their hangovers with iced coffee (the 3rd Annual Cheesemonger Invitational took place last night in Long Island City). I sampled cheese from about 10 of the 20 producers and purveyors (Edgwick Farm's bloomy-rind, aged goat cheese was a favorite), took home loaves from Peter Endriss of Runner and Stone, and waited in line for pints of beautiful, ripe blueberries and cherries from Maggie Nescuir, who picked the fruits just yesterday. Here's a taste:
Cooperstown Cheese Company
Lovely wildflowers from Queens County Farm
Blueberries from Maggie Nescuir
Hot Bread Kitchen
French-style turnovers from Peter Endriss
People's Pops was shaving ice for snow cones.
Best in show? The tiniest cheese lover in attendance.
