Picnic Closes in the East Village
Rumors were circulating that Picnic (117 Second Avenue), the Southern-inflected American restaurant that opened just a few months back in the East Village, closed up shop a week or so ago (that the phone rings incessantly and that EV Grieve posted a rent listing for the address seem pretty convincing evidence, too). We now get confirmation from two people with knowledge of the restaurant that the rumors are true -- Picnic has packed it in.
We also get word that chef Nick Nostadt, a midwesterner and Berry Park alum, has moved over to helm the kitchens at Alewife, the Jeffrey, and the forthcoming Fools Gold, all top-notch beer bars that put out elevated drinking snacks.
We'll speak with Nostadt shortly about his plans for his new home.
