PSA: Today, Your Whole Foods Purchases Support the Lower Eastside Girls Club
John Mackey may have been a PR nightmare for Whole Foods, but no company -- like no person -- can be all bad. The Bowery location of Whole Foods, for example, is donating 5 percent of all purchases made today to the Lower Eastside Girls Club, an organization that aims to empower girls living on the Lower East Side.
The Whole Foods donation will go toward providing healthy cooking classes to the neighborhood's youth, and will help fund the club's summer farmers market. The Lower Eastside Girls Club also runs the Sweet Things Bake Shop, which offers business skills training and sells tasty treats out of its Avenue C storefront, as well as online.
