Queens Wonder Bread Plant Closes, Screwing 175 Workers
A Jamaica bakery that's served as a Wonder Bread factory since the 1920s closed its doors permanently today, putting 175 workers out of their jobs.
The New York Post reports that the bakery, which opened 130 years ago as the Shults Bread Co., was closed by Hostess, which owns Wonder Bread. The company decided last year that modernizing the facilities would be more costly and difficult than shafting its employees, whom the company attempted to placate yesterday with a job fair abounding with lower-paying opportunities. The bakery facility, meanwhile, is now for sale.
