Questlove DJ Set at Hybird, Bastille Week, Memento Film Feast: What to Do This Week
Your itinerary to Bastille/French Restaurant Week 2013 awaits.
Still nursing a holiday hangover and trying to fend off the heat? Here's a look at our favorite reasons to venture out this week, sure to keep you cool and cushion the blow of your post-long-weekend return to responsibility.
There are many ways to celebrate French heritage in the lead-up to Bastille Day. You could rent a Citibike and create your own personal Tour de France, for instance, or participate in a petanque tournament or Friday's Bastille Day Ball. The best of all, though, might be to indulge in the country's fine food and wine. Thirty-eight participating restaurants across New York City will host revelers, and many will offer a special menu for $17.89 in honor of the French Revolution. Select locations, including Pigalle and Maison, will also feature a special Tour De France 100th anniversary cocktail (aperitif wine, gin, lemon juice, and honey-thyme syrup).
$2 Menu at Hybird with special guest Questlove, Hybird, 75 Ninth Avenue, Tuesday, 10 a.m.
To celebrate its arrival in Chelsea Market, Stephen Starr's Hybird is offering its entire menu at a beat-dropping rate of $2 per item for one day only. Grab a drum ... stick and shake it in the air as Questlove--a part-owner of the hip chicken-and-dumpling shop--performs a one-hour DJ set beginning at 11 a.m. Music will keep the dance party rolling until 5 p.m..
Memento Film Feast, Nitehawk Cinema, 136 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Nitehawk hosts another unique culinary entertainment experience, matching the work of Top Chef and The Chew alum Carla Hall to the screening of Christopher Nolan's infamous movie-in-reverse Memento. Dishes on the "Backwards Menu" are slated to include squid ink linguine and a hot fried chicken salad, and each of the five courses will be paired with a unique drink selection. Tickets are $96.
