Rai Rai Ken's Curry Ramen, Our Cheap Eat of the Day
Curry ramen at Rai Rai Ken (214 East 10th Street, 212-477-7030), $9.50
It's soup weather -- warm up with a bowl of ramen.
We've thawed out from our winter storm to the tune of some freezing rain -- and tomorrow, the temperatures drop again. Steel yourself against the weather: One of our favorite chill-busting combinations is hitting the Russian baths in the East Village, sitting in the steam rooms until we're about to pass out, and then heading down the street to Rai Rai Ken for some restorative curry ramen. This heady bowl of noodles is steeped in the sweet spice of curry; it bobs with slices of supple roasted pork, a yolk-dripping egg, a little seaweed, and a substantial nest of noodles. If you want to be really warm, ask for your bowl to be made spicy, and bask in the warm glow of the prickly heat of chili.
