RedFarm's Spicy Crispy Beef, One of Our 100 Favorite Dishes
No. 50: Spicy crispy beef from RedFarm
Yes, we're all currently obsessed with RedFarm's imminent Upper West Side location, which is slated to open any old day now. But remember two years and, like, forty hipster Asian restaurants ago when we were just talking about how delicious the food is at this spot? Well, it's still good. So good, in fact, that every time we stop by, we're like, "Whoa. I always forget how good this place really is." And that's because of now-classics like the spicy crispy beef, which is fried so crispy it's almost feather-light and then doused in a sweet-savory sauce steeped with spice that builds. Before it hits your table, it's covered with a tuft of scallions, dusted with sesame seeds, and planted with crispy root chips. Haven't had it in awhile or--God forbid--missed it altogether in your NYC exploration? It's worth heading over there and (re-)checking it out.
Later this year, we'll pen our Best of New York issue, our annual love letter to what's great in this town. When that paper hits the streets, you'll find our picks for the very best this city has to offer when it comes to dozens of cuisines, restaurants, dishes, and drinks. Until then, you can get a taste of our contenders as we count down, in no particular order, our 100 favorite dishes from around the boroughs, a list of laudable eats worth tracking down right now.
