Say Goodbye to Denny's Ice Cream Shop, Gilt, Boom
Denny's Delight in Coney Island has closed after sustaining $50,000 in damages after Hurricane Sandy. Denny's was known for its famous soft serve custard and funnel cakes. Owner Dick Zigun told Brooklyn Paper, "I'm as much of a fan of banana-pistachio ice cream as anybody else. I'm going to miss it."
SoHo's Boom closed after accruing more than $100,000 in hurricane damages. Former Boom partner Rocco Ancarola told the New York Post that the damages plus raised rent forced the 20-year-old restaurant to close.
Gilt, the highbrow restaurant in the New York Palace, will serve its last dinner on Dec. 15. It will be replaced by a new Michael Richard restaurant.
Rack and Soul, the BBQ joint in Morningside Heights, closed. A note on the door read "Rack and Soul is now closed. I want to thank all of our loyal customers from the past 6 years. All the best, Michael Eberstadt."
