Say Hello to Bishops & Barons, Yunnan Kitchen
East Village bar Bishops & Barons opened last Thursday. It's a cocktail and supper-club spot by the same owner of the spot in Chelsea that was so exclusive it went out of business. According to The Local, the back of the bar "features a small semi-private chamber outfitted like a showgirl's dressing room." Fancy. [The Local]
Yunnan Kitchen, drawing from the inspirations of southwestern China, opened its doors to the public last week. The Times reports that offerings include "chrysanthemum salad, scrambled egg with jasmine flowers, rice cakes with cured ham, fried potato balls and skewered lamb meatballs." [NYTimes]
Key Food opened up on 495 Fifth Avenue, near 12th, last Thursday afternoon. The supermarket franchise claims to have a gourmet, organic food twist. According to Here's Park Slope, it "doesn't really break the mold, with checkout and deli counter up front, aisles down the middle, refrigerated items along the sides, and meat in the back." Aarpan Indian Cuisine opened up on 5th Avenue between 6th and 7th. With seating for around 26 people, the restaurant places an emphasis on their tandoor oven and vegetarian options. [Here's Park Slope]
