Scenes From Fall Fest at the South Street Seaport, Running Through October 31
In an ongoing effort to revitalize the surrounding area, the South Street Seaport (19 Fulton Street) launched SEE/CHANGE over the summer, drawing nearby office warriors and tourists to the slip and cobblestone streets with long-term retail and dining pop-ups like Smorgasbar, a beer-y extension of explosively popular Smorgasburg.
Smorgasbar packed it in last weekend, but the Seaport is extending SEE/CHANGE through October with Fall Fest, which includes a number of autumn-themed activities.
We popped over for the Landbrot pop-up, a German joint that's offering up a formidable list of sausages, streudels, and dumplings to be consumed at long picnic tables or in the tented, heated beer garden (which sounds like sort of an excellent way to spend a lunch hour if your boss is pretty liberal on the rules front or you're excellent at working with a buzz). Take a pretzel back to the office or head that way for a post-work Radeberger. The best days to do the latter might be Thursdays and Fridays, when DJs will spin sets from 4 until 8 p.m. You might want to make a reservation, since space is limited. Things were just getting up and running today, so we saw no evidence of the promised retail pop-ups and pumpkin patch, where you'll be able to carve your very own jack-o-lantern, but staff scurrying around to get things ready assured us everything would be good to go tomorrow.
As part of the festivities, the Seaport will host Youthmarket--a network of urban farm stands run by neighborhood youth--on Saturdays and Sundays, and it'll throw its fourth annual Taste of the Seaport on October 27 showcasing local restaurants and shops.
