Scenes From Sunday's New Amsterdam Market
The New Amsterdam Market made an appearance yesterday, transforming South Street into a bustle of shoppers, bags filled with chocolate and kimchi, gourds and cheese, organic meat and New York State wine. The market is now monthly, and the next one will be held on November 22. The big event of the day was an appearance by Josh Applestone of Fleisher's Grassfed and Organic Meats and Tom Mylan of the Meat Hook, who got onstage and broke down an entire hog lickety-split. But much of the action was happening elsewhere:
Butter those hot dog buns! The line for Luke's Lobster Roll was one of the longest at the market.
Bellwether Hard Cider from the Finger Lakes attracted a crowd, and sold out of many of its ciders
Robin's Island oysters, shucked and sold by a couple of guys from nearby Stella Restaurant
