Shake Shack Soft-Opens on Upper East Side

To read the Web today is to witness food bloggers gone wild: "First Look at Shake Shack Line, Gloriously Line-Free!" reports a Grub Street "operative." Eater shouts: "Shake Shack Upper East Side is Open Now, Now, Now!"

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

But it's true: Those wily folks at the Union Square Hospitality Group have quietly soft-opened the Upper East Side Shake Shack (154 East 86th Street), which will formally open on Friday.

It's open till 8 tonight, and from noon to 8 p.m. tomorrow, and will start serving burgers, shakes, and custards on Friday from 11 a.m. till 11 p.m. Concrete-lovers, note three concretes special to this location "inspired by its new neigborhood":

-- Coffee Bean Brownie (vanilla custard, brownies, coffee caramel, whipped cream) -- Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunchcrete (chocolate custard, peanut butter sauce, chocolate toffee, chocolate sprinkles) -- Pineapple Upper East Side Cake (vanilla custard, fresh pineapple, shortbread, caramel, maraschino cherries)

Uh, are people on the UES especially "into" vanilla custard, pineapples, toffee, and peanut butter? Is "vanilla custard" some sort of slang? Let's not go there. Please check the line and report back, because just writing about this is causing burger pangs.
