Six Brand-New Restaurants That Opened in NYC This Week

Looking for someplace to eat this weekend? Check out six of the newest restaurants in the city, which include a Jackson Heights Tibetan eatery, a modern Mediterranean joint, and a brewpub.

Red Stixs (216 East 49th Street, 646-964-5878) This Beijing-style restaurant originated in the Hamptons earlier this year, and plunked down a massive location in midtown earlier this week. Owners Michael Reda and David Lee and chef Skinny Mei all have roots at Phillipe (the former pair were founding partners; the chef worked the burners there for nine years), though they're no longer affiliated. Look for a high-energy vibe and dishes like soup dumplings, chicken satay, salt-and-pepper calamari, lettuce wraps, and, of course, Peking duck. Red Stixs is serving lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Threes Brewing (333 Douglass Street, Brooklyn) This Gowanus brewpub specializes in sour beers; owner Andrew Unterberg told the Voice he's had some of what's on tap aging on Long Island for three years. The place will also host guest brewers plus events and live performances. Look for coffee from Ninth Street Espresso and a pop-up eatery, which will rotate in guest chefs. This week, Roberta's turned out its pizza to the first guests.

Tijuana Picnic (151 Essex Street, 212-219-2000) From Acme team Jon Neidich and Jean-Marc Houmard comes this Mexican restaurant, which is serving elevated takes on what's typically casual fare. To wit, grilled corn with cricket aioli, red snapper ceviche, and yuki-marinated steak tacos. Mayahuel and NoMad hotel vet Jim Kearns built the tequila- and mezcal-focused drinks list; look for seasonal cocktails made from spirits from small-batch purveyors.

End of the Century Bar (104-08 Metropolitan Avenue, Queens) This Forest Hills watering hole opens tonight, paying homage to the tiki era with drinks like mai tais and scorpion bowls (owner Valentin Gonzalez worked at PKNY, the Lower East Side tiki bar that shuttered last year). Look, too, for classics like gimlets and Moscow mules, and for beer cocktails and punches.

Spicy Tibet (75-04 Roosevelt Avenue, Queens) Jackson Heights gained a Tibetan restaurant this week, an offshoot of Friends Corner Cafe, which is located across the street. In addition to more seating, the new space features an expanded menu, with a broader array of noodle soups. Dishes from the original location, like momos, have also made the jump.

Adalya (55 Irving Place, 646-896-1441) A New York City real estate maven and a Turkish restaurant vet are behind this new Irving Place modern Mediterranean restaurant, which is serving an upscale take on food from across the region. Begin with a flatbread, and then move into dishes like lamb loin, grilled haloumi, and duck breast. While the wine list is still a work in progress, it will soon feature selections from countries like Israel and Tunisia, in addition to classic bottlings from France, Italy, and Spain.
