Tequila Time--The Rumors Are Swirling About Phil Ward's New Tequila Den
Word at the bar has been that Phil Ward of Death & Co. fame has plans to open his own cocktail lounge with a focus on tequila and mezcal. A Muddled Thought spotted some work being done at 304 E 6th Street, a few doors down from Death & Co., where a sign proclaims the place as Mayahuel.
We noticed this in drink writers Gary & Mardee Haidin Regan's newsletter:
"New Cocktail Lounge in Manhattan seeks bartenders... with strong focus on Tequila and Mezcal... Seeking 'career oriented' candidates who consider the creation of cocktails a profession bordering on art and not merely a means to an end. (Paying Bills) If precision down to the dash seems absurd to you please do not respond. If you think you are the right candidate for this position email me at Phil@deathandcompany.com."
AMT says: "If the name, Mayahuel is any indication, once this place opens cocktail enthusiasts will not be disappointed. Mayahuel in Spanish is the female god most commonly associated with the maguey plant. Maguey is also the type edible caterpillar (yes you read that right) that frequently infests maguey and Agave plants, which are the basis for most forms of tequila and mezcal."
OK, now we're excited.
