Friday, May 3 The Food Book Fair The Food Book Fair started on Thursday, but its events will run all weekend. Some highlights include a book signing and Q&A with Deb Perelman of Smitten Kitchen, a foraging panel with Fredrik Berselius of Aska, and a farming panel at the Wythe Hotel. Saturday, May 4 Derby Day Cookout at Maysville Head to Fork in the Road favorite, Maysville from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a celebration of Derby Day. Chef Kyle Knall will team up with pitmaster John Markus to prepare barbecue on the streets of Flatiron in a custom-built rig that's traveled to New York from Alabama. Find pulled pork sandwiches with dill pickles ($11) and a big rib plate with sides ($14) along with Knall's crispy grits and hay-smoked oysters. The full whiskey and cocktail list will be available, and hats are suggested but not required.
Wine on Wheels Fundraiser Yannick Benjamin will host the Wine on Wheels fundraiser at Le Dû's Wines from 1 to 4 p.m. It will raise money for Benjamin's foundation, Wheeling Forward, which supports disabled individuals. The event will feature a silent auction, blind-tasting giveaways, snacks from Taco Moreles, and over 75 wines. Tickets start at $50 and can be purchased online. 600 Washington St.; 212-924-6999
City Grit Presents Chris Hastings Chris Hastings, the James Beard Award-winning chef from Birmingham's Hot and Hot Fish Club will cook a tasting menu at City Grit on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The menu will feature ingredients from Alabama and Alabama Gulf seafood. Sunday, May 5 Lucha Libre: Thrillist Taco Knockout Thrillist will host a Taco Knockout at Williamsburg's Villain, which will feature 10 taco stands from places around the city like NY Sushi Ko and Los Perros Locos from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A $45 entrance fee gets you unlimited beers and five tacos.
