The Five Best Immunity-Boosting Juices in NYC
It's official: Flu season is upon us. With all the temperature fluctuations, weather changes (from warm and humid to snow), holiday parties, junk food, and whatever else, chances are all the activity is taking a toll on your immune system. You could just ignore the symptoms and keep going, or lessen the chances of coming down with a cold by flooding your body with some nutrients. Here are our favorite immune-boosting juices in NYC.

Blueprint's Orange Grapefruit Lemon This New York-based juice brand has become one of the largest producers of cleanses in the country since its inception in 2000. It doesn't operate its own storefronts, but its juice is offered by mail order and sold all over the place these days (Whole Foods and other upscale grocery stores carry it). The Orange Grapefruit Lemon is chock-full of vitamin C -- and you can rest assured it's a hell of a lot better for you than most of the OJ you see on the shelves.

Elixir's (225 Liberty Street, and other locations; 212-945-0400) Immune Booster
Many on the juice train try to avoid excess fruit -- to some, sugar is sugar no matter what. For those on that bandwagon, this would be your cold-cure liquid of choice. Elixir's Immune Booster contains a hearty blend of carrot, apple, spinach, kale, ginger, and echinacea.

Organic Avenue's (5 Bryant Park, and other locations; 212-358-0500) Medicinal Green
We've all heard we need to eat more greens. This antimicrobial nectar is full of them. It combines cucumber, swiss chard, spinach, collard greens, and kale with lemon, garlic, turmeric, Himalayan pink salt, and cayenne pepper for a savory, nutrient-rich powerhouse that should knock out a cold before it fully sets in. Medicinal Green is a bit on the earthy side, but it's loaded with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial benefits.

Juice Generation's (644 Ninth Avenue, and other locations; 212-541-5600) Cold Warrior
Juice or fresh produce might help you heal quickly, but with freezing temperatures, holding something cold doesn't always sound so appealing. This mini-chain offers a hot cold-busting option. The Cold Warrior features antioxidant-rich green tea, OJ, ginger, echinacea, vitamin C, zinc, and raw agave -- it's kind of like chicken soup, at least in its comforting effects.

Liquiteria's (170 Second Avenue, and other locations; 212-358-0300) Killer XX
Drawing the crowds at its original East Village location since 1996 (it's opened three new spots and has another on the way), this juicery has had a loyal following since it first opened its doors nearly two decades ago. For those seriously into imbibing pressed fruit, cleanse coaches and ambassadors are on hand to advise customers on the process. If you're just aiming for a little immunity boost, go for the Killer XX, with apple, lemon, a double serving of ginger, and cayenne -- it's packed with vitamins and nutrients that'll get you on your feet again. Plus, the spicy properties are perfect for clearing out those sniffly sinuses.
