Nicola Twilley has a wonderful post on Edible Geography about great moments in the history of napkin folding (there were many of them!). It's fascinating and silly all at once:
Sometimes beautiful songbirds were hidden in the napkins to charm the guests as they, twittering and fluttering their little wings, made their delightful escape.
Twilley points us to The Beauty of the Fold, a napkin-folding manual published in 1639 by Matthia Gieger, a German meat carver who also taught artistic napkin-folding 101 at the University of Padua.
