The Latest in the Stella D'oro Saga

The Stella saga continues: According to a report yesterday in Crain's New York, the union representing workers at the Stella D'oro factory has filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board to try to halt the Bronx factory's planned closure. After going on strike last August, the factory's 136 workers came back to work last week following a judge's ruling that the company had violated labor law. Their return to the factory was greeted by the company's announcement that it would be closing the factory in three months due to the union's failure to make concessions that would stop Stella D'oro from losing money. Crain's reports that the union has petitioned the NLRB to file an injunction to prevent the factory's closure and is seeking to re-start negotiations; what will happen, it seems, is anybody's guess.
