The Pan American Closes in the Wake of Mott Street Fire
The pre-fire Pan American.
Last Thursday, a fire tore through the fourth floor of 202 Mott Street, injuring three residents and destroying 13 apartments. Food-fixated types noted that the blaze occurred just across the street from Lombardi's, but it more directly affected the Pan American, the Nuevo Latino restaurant that moved in to the ground floor of the tenement building last December.
Now, the restaurant sends word that it has closed temporarily for restoration. According to its owner, Fernando Riquelme, it will reopen within a few weeks, complete with new seasonal menus and a spiffed-up interior. Best of luck to them, and to all of the residents of 202 Mott Street.
