Tonight, the old Cafe Deville space on Third Avenue and 13th Street will birth the Penny Farthing, a new tavern named for an obsolescent predecessor of the modern bicycle. The wood-paneled, bi-level space will feature an extensive beer menu, as well as a brunch and weekday menu of by-the-book pub vittles like spinach and artichoke dip, sliders, and fish 'n' chips. The place was designed by the group behind the Bowery's R Bar and 200 Orchard, and in a nod to its name, is decorated with pieces of defunct machinery and archaic ephemera. It will be open Sunday - Tuesday from 11 a.m. - 2 a.m., and Wednesday - Saturday 11 a.m. - 4 a.m.
