We're not exactly itching to go vegetarian, but we don't think it would take us many meals at The Queens Kickshaw to convince us that giving up animal flesh wouldn't actually be so hard: Under the eye of chef Youngsun Lee, who has worked at spots like Annisa and Momofuku Noodle Bar, the place turns out a completely solid menu of meat-free fare that combines culinary influence enough that a dish of mac and cheese looks totally normal next to a bowl of bibimbap. The Queens Kickshaw slays on many levels, and if we lived in the neighborhood, we'd go back frequently. But the dish we think is worth traveling for while we're still able to get summer produce? The deep-fried squash blossoms. The flowers are stuffed with sweet, creamy mascarpone and ricotta before they're lightly tempura-battered and fried until crispy. The blossoms are plated with a swipe of pureed mountain yam, which adds fresh, earthy bite to the indulgent dish.
