The Year in 'Consequential Ice Cream Events'

There are only 24 days left to make year-end lists, so The Atlantic is getting a jump on things with a roundup of "the consequential ice cream events of 2010." Compiled by Gus Rancatore, the co-founder of Cambridge, Massachusetts's Toscanini, the most consequential things to happen to frozen dairy include salt, South Asian flavors, Mexican paletas (à la La Newyorkina), and cereal-infused milks -- which indicates that Christina Tosi knew what she was doing with that trademarking business.

Interestingly, a food anthropologist told Rancatore that American food tastes are influenced by "military misadventures" and thus predicts Iraqi flavors may eventually find their way onto cones. Za'atar soft-serve, anyone?
