This Weekend's Five Best Food Events

Sample some Danish treats this weekend
Sample some Danish treats this weekend

Whether you plan on stompin' your feet to some bluegrass jams or gently tapping your toes to a trumpet, this weekend offers a couple of opportunities to get out on the dance floor (while you eat and drink, of course). If that kind of activity isn't your thing, well, perhaps you'd like to sample a little Danish food or drink some craft beer.

Craft Canned Festival, Low Tide Bar, 97-01 Shorefront Parkway, Queens, Saturday, 2 p.m.

Canned beer isn't just for college kids anymore, and craft breweries are increasingly turning to aluminum for packaging fine tasting cold brew. At this beach festival, attendees will have the chance to sample 20 different kinds of canned craft beer, with plenty of grub available nearby. Guests will also receive a complimentary Low Tide Bar koozie to keep that beer cool as part of the $25 beer tasting package.

East Ville Hoedown: Bacon, BBQ, Beer & Bacon Cocktails Tasting Festival, Webster Hall, 125 East 11th Street, Saturday, 2:30 p.m.

Tres Carnes pitmaster Michael Rodriguez is bringing the brisket to this southern shindig, which offers guests the chance to sample moonshine, bourbon, and plenty of bacon. There will also be plenty of beers from 'Merica, and a bluegrass band will provide entertainment. Tickets are $50 and are inclusive of all food and drink.

Eat Smart in Denmark Book Debut, The Copenhagen, 13 Laight Street, Sunday, 5 p.m.

Co-authors Carol and Katrina Schroeder are celebrating the launch of their new travel guide Eat Smart in Denmark by hosting a book party complete with Danish specialties such as smørrebrød and Danish licorice. Carlsberg beer will also be available as well as a selection of popular Danish liquors at a cash bar, and all guests will receive a copy of the guide. Tickets are $25.

Cookin' with Max and Friends, The Cleveland, 25 Cleveland Place, Sunday 6 p.m.

This restaurant is offering a series of guest chef dinners every Sunday, and this week, the backyard garden of this Nolita restaurant is bringing a bit of Brooklyn to Manhattan with The Meat Hook's Brent Young. For $25, guests receive a plate with one entree and two side dishes along with the choice of beer or wine (vegetarian options are always available, too). Additional chefs scheduled to make an appearance before summer ends include Nick Subic of King Noodle and Mile End's Eli Sussman. You'll need a reservation to attend.

Kind of Blue's 55th Anniversary, Analogue, 19 West 8th Street, Sunday, 7 p.m.

There's no easier way to start a Sunday morning with a little Lionel Richie, but there's no better way to prep yourself for Monday morning with four hours of jazz and some Miles Davis. In celebration of Davis' influential jazz album Kind of Blue, guests are invited to this Greenwich Village cocktail den for an evening of complimentary jazz. Drinks and bar bites are available for purchase, though those who RSVP with the bar will also receive a complimentary cocktail tasting.
