Today in Pop-Up Shops: Poundcake!
Wait, don't get too excited. There won't actually be pound cake sold at Poundcake NYC, the new pop-up shop at 242 Elizabeth Street in Nolita. Instead, this traveling boutique sells jewelry, accessories, art, photography, and vintage furniture by Brooklyn artists. But take heart, foodies: There will also be artisanal chocolates by Fine and Raw Chocolate on offer.
The name may sound sweet, but it was inspired by the industry term used to refer to the editorial content of porn mags.
"The space is a bit gritty [for a place called Poundcake]," says founder Anna Badoian. "I have so many talented friends and wanted to provide a place for them to showcase their work."
Poundcake NYC opens tonight at 6 and runs through February. Look for it in Williamsburg and other neighborhoods next summer.
