Vegetarian Delights of NYC--Khatsa
No, there's no cat in khatsa, or khat (the Egyptian semi-euphoric smokeable herb), either. Rather, khatsa is a wonderful vegetarian salad of cauliflower, potatoes, freshly shelled peas, pickled black peppercorns, and cilantro gobbed with a spicy red dressing. It can be acquired at Himalayan Cafe, an East Village Nepalese diner. Plenty of other vegetarian stuff on the menu, including the ginger-laced tofu soup called thang, the incendiary stir-fry chili dofu (that's tofu in Nepali), and tsel momo--dumplings stuffed with season veggies. 78 East 1st Street, 212-358-0160
