Veselka Lets Its 'B' Hang Out
Nobody really goes to Veselka expecting gleaming tabletops or
four-star two-star service. So the news that it scored a "B" on its last restaurant inspection is less noteworthy than the fact that, somewhat predictably, none of its patrons seem to care.
The Journal reports that the Second Avenue restaurant, which has been open 24/7 since 1954, is now displaying its big, green B in its window for all the world to see and then promptly disregard. The DOH's last inspection turned up, among other things, evidence of "filth flies" and improper storage. Although a manager claims the restaurant is taking the grade seriously, at least the patrons aren't, particularly when 3 a.m. beer goggles make that B look a lot like an A.
