What to Drink at M. Wells (While You Still Can): The Glimmer
Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.
The drink: Glimmer
The bar: M. Wells (21-17 49th Avenue, Long Island City, 718-425-6917)
The price: $10
Ingredients: Gin, Aperol, Licor 43, orange blossom, cava, served up
The buzz: There's been a lot of hubbub lately over the little diner with the Quebecois chef out in Long Island City that is set to close at the end of this month. But let's set all that aside for a moment to contemplate this bright orange cocktail served at a tiny section of the lunch counter that now doubles as the bar. Bright orange in every sense of the term: It sparkles in the mouth thanks to slightly sweet aromatic orange blossom essence and a dash of cava. It's punchy, yet pretty ... like the ethos of the diner, you say? Sip it as the chaos of the final weeks of this beloved eatery unfolds all around you. And don't worry: As the bartender assured us, there will be Glimmers aplenty in no time when M. Wells returns in a new, nearby space. Who knows ... there might even be a real bar at which to drink them.
