What to Drink at the Tap Room at Colicchio & Sons: The Rhumhattan
Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.
The drink: Rhumhattan
The bar: Tap Room at Colicchio & Sons, 85 Tenth Avenue
The price: $16
The ingredients: Rhum J.M. Gold, Carpano Antica vermouth, and the Bitter Truth's Bittermens Xocolatl Mole bitters, shaken and served up in a cocktail glass.
The buzz: For those who believe a proper Manhattan can and should only be made with rye, allow us to meaningfully clear our throats. Rum turns classics like Old Fashioneds and Manhattans into sweeter, sassier entities. Finger-snappers with an oh-no-you-didn't attitude. At Tap Room, oh yes they did. The Rhumhattan is silky and slightly herbaceous from the Carpano Antica, with a dark, creamy mole heart. Surprisingly, it's shaken, not stirred, as a Manhattan traditionally should be. But that might just be the influence of the Martinican rhum on the bartender.
