What's Happening This Week: Be Your Own Nonna by Learning to Make Your Own Fresh Pasta; Weekly Summer Wine & Music Fest

As many of you know, our weekly dining and drinking newsletter features all the coolest epicurean events in the city. Sign up for it here!

Summer in Spain Murray's Cheese Shop July 13, 6:30-8 p.m. Crisp off-dry roses aren't the only consumables from Spain to enjoy this summer. Learn how to pair newly released 2008 white wines and rosados, as well as dry sherry, sweet sparklers, and ripe, juicy reds with an array of summer milk cheeses from Spain. Kerin Auth, a partner in the East Village Spanish wine boutique Tinto Fino, whom we recently spoke to about great BYOB wines, and Chris Munsey from Murray's will lead the class.

"Cheese is very seasonal. It all depends on when it's made and what the animal was eating at that time," Munsey, Murray's wholesale manager, told us. "We'll likely try a lot of softer cheeses. Like Queso de la Serena, a fruity, sour sheep's milk from Extramadura. And Gallego, a cow's milk cheese from Galicia that is served spread on good, fresh bread like butter."

Pasta from Scratch & Walking Tour of Little Italy Astor Center July 12, 11-4 p.m. You don't need a nonna to help you make your own fresh pasta. Let Mark Bello of Pizza a Casa teach you how to use a pasta chitarra, among other pasta-making secrets. The day-long class starts in Little Italy, where you'll shop for ingredients, and continues with a four-hour intensive Old World fresh pasta and sauce workshop. Take a break from making the pasta to pair it with a selection of Italian wines.

1st Annual Hudson Square Music & Wine Festival In the parking lot between Varick, Spring, Hudson, and Vandam streets Tuesdays, 5-7 p.m. A parking lot in the West Soho gets transformed into a music and wine festival every Tuesday evening until August 11. Now that summer has properly arrived, what better way is there to spend an evening than outside sipping wine while you nibble bites and listen to live music? Aside from City Winery, which hosts the event, other local businesses will have booths there featuring their various products in an outdoor farmer's market-like setting.
