Herring Festival Aquavit June 14-19 and 21-26 Jewish delis aren't the only ones who get excited about herring this time of year. Aquavit's annual Herring Festival kicks off today with hot deals on chilled fish, including a smörgåsbord of pickled ramps and pickled rhubarb and apple herring available for lunch and dinner in the Bistro. Also look out for such classics as Matjes Herring, Skånsk Mustard Herring, and Creamy Horseradish Herring. It's all in celebration of the Swedish holiday of Midsommar, which marks the longest day of the year.
Culintro's Restaurant Design: The Influence of Consumer Trends Gabarron Foundation June 14, 6-8 p.m. Ever wonder how consumer behavior affects the concept and design of restaurants? Well, architects from iCRAVE, Andre Kikoski, Gray V, and Stephanie Goto -- responsible for such projects as the JetBlue Terminal (T5), James Beard design award winner the Wright at the Guggenheim, and Morimoto -- have. And so has chef George Mendes of Aldea. Join these panelists as they speak about their experiences and how they've adapted their designs to cater to today's diners.
Wine Dinner with Augustin Huneeus of Quintessa winery David Burke Townhouse June 14, 7 p.m. The owner of the California winery will be the guest of honor at this special five-course wine-pairing dinner priced at $125 per person. Dishes like poached sea bass with a duxelle of wild mushroom, fuji apples, and corn succotash; and duck terrine with foie gras, duck confit, and crispy duck tongue will be accompanied by such Napa and Sonoma bottlings as sauvignon blanc and pinot noir.
