Meet the Merchant Brooklyn Wine Exchange Wednesday, November 3, 6 p.m. Ever wonder where your wine comes from? No, not the vineyard -- the wine merchant! He or she is the one whose name is on the back of the bottle. As part of a series that introduces oenophiles to the people who ensure we're kept well lubricated, meet Neal Rosenthal, a wine importer who specializes in organic and sustainable wines from around the world. He'll be conducting a free seminar at the wine shop's Learning Center, where he'll discuss his philosophy on wines and answer questions on what goes on behind the scenes in the business. The center accommodates 40 people, so call ahead to reserve your spot.
Day of the Dead Festival Rosa Mexicano October 27-November 21 Halloween may be over, but you can celebrate All Saints' Day (today) and All Souls' Day (tomorrow) all month long with Rosa Mexicano's special Day of the Dead Festival menu. Dishes include Lobster Pozole, a traditional hominy stew; roasted duck with orange glaze and mole negro; and Mexican cookies and milk. Sip a Herradura Great Pumpkin to get you started (tequila, pumpkin puree, freshly squeezed orange juice, with maple syrup, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg).
Sunday Night One-Pot Dinner Series Back Forty November 7 through 2011 'Tis the season of the one-pot meal. Back Forty is celebrating with $25 one-pot dishes, plus a "thematically appropriate" cocktail or dessert included. November will feature Pozole, a Mexican stew of corn, pork, and chiles, in honor of Day of the Dead. It comes either with a Spiked Mexican Hot Chocolate Champurrado cocktail or rice pudding with candied pumpkin. In future months, look out for Florentine Lasagna, Brazilian Feijoada, New Orleans Gumbo, and French Choucroute.
