After a great weekend, the last thing you want to do is take a look at the calendar and realize it's Monday--and the last Monday of summer at that. With school back in session and Labor Day barbecue preparations underway, why not sneak out of the house for one more night? Here's a look at this week's best excuses to do just that.
Queens Brewery Night, Bourbon Street, 40-12 Bell Boulevard, Queens, Monday, 7 p.m.
If you're a fan of local beer--or in desperate need of glassware--heading out to Bayside is in your best interest. For $4, patrons will be able to both sample beer and take home a piece of nostalgia as the recently established Queens Brewery sets up shop on Bourbon Street for one night. Attendees will receive a commemorative Queens Brewery pint glass with their purchase.
Cool Charcuterie and Cold Riesling, Private Residence, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.
If you've ever wanted to tell a food critic what you really think--or perhaps learn some tricks of the trade--the Upper East Side is a good place to go on Tuesday night. Food and wine critic David Rosengarten joins forces with with the owners of Calliope to curate a dinner party focused on select Riesling pairings and specialties from the restaurant like the chicken galantine. Rosengarten will lead a hands-on seasonal dessert-making session in the kitchen for the final course. Tickets are $95 and can be purchased by clicking online.
Crab boils are a fun way to say goodbye to summer--or hold on for a few more days. This five day feast will feature crustaceans prepared in both Chesapeake and Vietnamese-gulf style boils and a selection of unique sides to match, including stone ground corn bread and crab pho noodles. Wash your meal down with pitchers of Sly Fox Pikeland Pils, available for $15. Secure your communal spot at the table for $45.
