Where Am I Eating? Schnipper's Quality Kitchen
Thanks to everyone who played Where Am I Eating? The winner is Christian, who correctly guessed that this green chile cheese dog is from Schnipper's Quality Kitchen (620 Eighth Avenue, 212-921-2400). Congrats, Christian -- and please email me to claim your prize.
That green chile dog is made with roasted poblano peppers (rather than Hatch green chiles, as natives of the Southwest might expect). Nevertheless, those peppers add an appealing, mellow heat to the proceedings, which also include a heap of pico de gallo and a serviceable griddled dog buried underneath it all. But what is going on with that cheese? It's like Cheez Whiz crossed with reconstituted mashed potatoes: weirdly sandy and bland.
Stay tuned for another Where Am I Eating? contest next week.
